HANAKA JAPANESE KITCHEN (FERNTREE GULLY)

We stopped by this charming restaurant after a walk in the Dandenong Ranges and were pleasantly surprised to discover such high-quality Japanese cuisine in the suburbs. The flavors were authentic, with generous portions and a diverse menu. The Chicken Teriyaki and Gyudon were tender and flavorful, and we were thrilled to find Takoyaki—such a rare treat outside the city! The owners were friendly, and after chatting to them, we learned that the head chef has honed their skills in several top Melbourne cafes. What a gem to have this culinary delight in the local area!

Stopped by for a quick lunch on a quiet Sunday afternoon with our little one. Tony was very accommodating with us. The food was fresh and tasty with the curry reminding me of the kind I had in Fukuoka, maybe because of the pickled veg in the vegetable curry. If you're craving Japanese food, I highly recommend this place over any other local offering.

An awesome Japanese restaurant, a relaxed atmosphere, calm and attentive staff, and truly delicious food. The Takoyaki were truly divine, the Donburi dishes were filling and the eggplant special was lovely! Highly recommended!
