Review: Shou Japanese Kitchen – Popular Spot, But Not for Everyone Shou Japanese Kitchen is a well-known local Japanese restaurant, often busy during lunch and dinner hours. It’s a popular choice for many, and one thing that can’t be faulted is the quality and portion sizes—they’ve consistently delivered on that front. However, for me, the taste just hasn’t quite hit the mark. The chicken in the ramen came with skin, which personally isn’t my preference, and the prawns were overly crunchy, to the point of being off-putting. Given the price point, I feel there are better alternatives in the area that offer more balanced flavors. Verdict? While it might be a go-to for many locals, Shou’s flavor profile may not suit everyone. Good quality and generous servings, but not quite my taste.

The food was simple, quick and nice. Personal fav is the soft shell crab roll. Also love that it was made authentically 🇯🇵. Staff members were friendly too. Photos taken by my partner and I 🤣

Updated 2025 - 2.5 stars Very disappointing to find out that they’ve now changed the takeaway packaging which meant significantly less of each item. They’ve also incorporated pasta as part of the condiments sometimes instead of salad. The rice is also more mushy and less of the sushi rice quality. We were super disappointed that the amount of sashimi you get nowadays have been significantly slashed. Service is also not the same as before anymore, not getting much of the old friendly vibe nowadays. They really need to pay attention with the glass water bottle cleanliness, we saw quite a bit of mould around the mouth and felt really disgusted so didn’t end up drinking the water. This used to be our favourite Japanese restaurant but with all the changes, we now go here a lot less than before. 2023 - 5 stars One of the best and most authentic Japanese food you’ll find in Perth. It is a very small restaurant and only limited seatings. They do take reservations and this place is always so busy with dine-in, takeaway and UberEats… where there’s the crowd, you can bet the food won’t be disappointing. Every meal we’ve ever ordered are always of fresh quality and definitely cannot miss out on a fresh plate of sashimi which is reasonably priced compared to other Japanese restaurants in Perth. So far we’ve only found the tempura dipping sauce to be a bit too sweet but everything else has been superb. This is our usual go to place when we feel like authentic Japanese meals close to home. とてもおいしいんですよ
