This Japanese restaurant is one of the best restaurants on the Gold Coast. The food is absolutely delicious, and the staff were warm and welcoming. What really set this place apart, though, is the unique decor - the owner's passion for anime and Star Wars shines through in the amazing collection on display. As a fan myself, it was a dream come true! If you're looking for a great meal and a fun atmosphere, look no further. Five stars isn't enough!"
Overall the environment is clean and comfortable, fresh good quality seafood.
I had high hopes for Maruya in Southport, but left pretty disappointed. The taste of the food was okay overall, but the prices were noticeably higher compared to other Japanese spots in the area. The karaage was quite nice, but it came with barely any mayo, and when I asked for more, I was charged an extra $2 — which felt a bit ridiculous for such a small request. I also had the Wagyu bowl, which was mostly just a mountain of rice with hardly any vegetables or salad. What little salad there was ended up being drenched in mayo, making it pretty unappetizing. The Supreme Chirashi Don was a letdown too — only nine tiny pieces of sashimi, and honestly, I would've been better off ordering the nigiri instead as it would have been more filling. The restaurant interior was also overwhelming, covered in toys and merchandise everywhere. It’s definitely not somewhere I'd recommend if you have sensory sensitivities. Overall, I won’t be returning.
