If you're looking for a cozy yet vibrant spot to enjoy authentic Japanese izakaya dining, Amuro in Darlinghurst is an absolute gem. From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel right at home. The dim lighting, rustic wooden accents, and lively buzz of conversation create the perfect setting for a memorable night out. The staff at Amuro are truly exceptional—attentive, friendly, and always ready with a smile. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcomed and well taken care of, whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor. Their knowledge of the menu and thoughtful recommendations add an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. Now, let’s talk about the food—it’s nothing short of spectacular. The menu is packed with delicious bar bites and hearty dishes, but the standout for me was the Hokkaido scallops. Perfectly sliced, tender, and bursting with flavor, they were an absolute delight. Each bite was a reminder of why Amuro is such a special place. Whether you're stopping by for a quick drink and a snack or settling in for a full meal, Amuro delivers on every level. It’s the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more. Highly recommended!
I had a really great time at Amuro, chatting, drinking and enjoying the dishes together with my friend. I definitely see myself coming back again to introduce my other friends to this cute little spot. Price-wise we found was quite decent for most of the dishes, but as there is no drink menu you'll have to ask the bartender what this may look like as we were in for a surprise with our sake glasses (but was really delicious so it was fine). The only thing to keep in mind is they do not take reservations until you become a regular customer, so until then it is purely a walk-in-only policy and the condition of entry is to order one drink. Also, note that this spot can be quite busy even during the weekdays so get there early if you can. I cannot wait to come back and bring my bestie here as I know she'll enjoy this place. I plan to visit again!
Did a sweaty Pilates class nearby and was starving, so I tried to walk into Amuro—luckily got a seat! The vibe is super chill but still fancy in the best way, and the portions were way more generous than I expected. Had the sashimi (so fresh), tomato shiso (really nice balance of flavors), grilled mushrooms (perfectly charred), and udon (pure comfort food). They’ve got a huge premium sake selection, and the staff gave some great recommendations. Started with a yuzu spritz, then tried a sake that paired perfectly with everything. Such a solid meal—already planning to come back!
